I was a Student Manager as part of Duke’s Baseball team, serving with the Data Analytics sub-team. My primary duties were attending practice and games to log Trackman data for use in data analysis by coaches and my team. One analysis project of mine was a Python model to create umpire profiles with their specific strike zone tendencies using Trackman pitch data.
I had many great nights sitting in the control room at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, and have enjoyed seeing the team grow over my time at Duke. Unfortunately I decided to leave my position with the team as my interests shifted away from sports analytics, but I am proud of my time with Duke Baseball and happy that I was able to leave on good terms and help with the ensuing transition.
